History

In 1936, Peter Cameron produced a design for a rotorcraft featuring rotor blades that could be retracted and folded in flight, based on his patent GB471509, along with a wing that rotated to the vertical during vertical take off, rotating to the horizontal for forward flight. Tractor propellers were mounted in the wing leading edge, driven by the same powerplant as used for vertical lift. He proposed the design to Weir, Cierva and finally Avro, who employed him to develop his ideas further, but all eventually rejected the concept.
