History

Angus M Fleming, born January 1946 in London, graduated from Birmingham University in 1967 with a B.Sc (Hnrs) in Production Engineering. He began AMF Microflight at Membury Airfield in Berkshire in 1978 to develop the Chevvron, designed to fill a gap for a three-axis control two-seater in the microlight light aviation market. The prototype first flew in late 1983.

Restyled as AMF Aviation Enterprises, the company built the more advanced Magnum in 2003, development of which halted due to lack of finance. Meanwhile, Aviation Enterprises continued developing other composite structures including airship gondolas, composites propellers, tidal turbine blades, wind tunnel fan blades, camera booms and motorcar trailers. In December 2015 AEL was acquired by Dutch composite technology leaders Airborne.
