Arthur Andrew Bage

(1902 - 1987)

Arthur Andrew Bage was born on 13 February 1902 in Southwark, London, the son of Frederick Andrew Bage and Isabella Bage (née Richardson).

Bage was on the technical staff of Boulton and Paul from 1918, followed by Gloster and Handley Page. In 1934 he joined Percival Aircraft Ltd as Chief Draughtsman, replacing Rowland Bound, where he was to develop the basic designs of E.W. Percival into the graceful and efficiant aeroplanes the company became renowned for. Following the resignation of Percival in March 1940, Bage became Chief Designer, responsible for all Percival designs from that point on.

Bage resigned from Percial (by now Hunting Percival) in 1949 and joined Avro as Assistant Chief Designer. The following year Bage joined Aero Controls Ltd, Northampton, as Chief designer.

Arthur Andrew Bage died on 4 June 1987 in Sywell, Northamptonshire.
