Type Description

  • Type 93 Boarhound Mk.I
  • Two seat army cooperation and liaison aircraft, built as a private venture against Air Ministry Specification 8/24 (superseded by 30/24). A was a two-bay, staggered unswept biplane, it used a method of steel construction which involved high-tensile steel strips, rolled into cusped and flanged sections, which were riveted together to form longerons and struts. Wings were of equal span but unequal chord, with Frise ailerons fitted to the lower wing only. The fuselage was built up with Warren girder sides to the forward bays, wire braced panels elsewhere. A significant amount of military equipment was required (radio, camera and message gear), which resulted in a deep fuselage. Armament consisted of forward-firing one .303 in Vickers machine gun on side of fuselage and one .303 in Lewis Gun on Scarff ring in the observers cockpit, raised to allow it to fired in the forward quarters as well as abeam and aft. An aerodynamically balanced rudder was fitted, but no fin, the rudder extending below the short stern post. One 425 h.p. Bristol Jupiter IV powerplant.

  • Two seat day bomber and general purpose biplane to Specification 26/27, based on the Boarhound Mk.I. The Frise ailerons were modified and new, plain, narrow chord ailerons added to the upper wing. The fuselage was slightly deeper at the stern post, and featured a revised fin and rudder, along with a prone bomb aiming position in the lower fuselage, to which the gunner / bomb aimer could move when required. One 425 h.p. Bristol Jupiter IV powerplant.
  • Type 93B Boarhound Mk.II
  • Two seat reconnaissance fighter biplane, based on the Beaver, but without the prone bomb aiming position in the lower fuselage. One 450 h.p. Bristol Jupiter VI powerplant.
