Type Description

  • Type 30 Babe Mk.I
  • Small single-engined single-seat biplane with unswept staggered single-bay wings of unequal span. Full-span ailerons were fitted on the top wing only. The Vee interplane struts, one pair on each side, were reinforced by blocks at the bottom, where they spread out so as to form a rigid attachment for the bottom wing. The fuselage was plywood-skinned, with fabric covering it for protection. The cockpit was below the upper wing trailing edge with rounded decking aft to the tail. The fin and rudder were generous and rounded, the undercarriage a conventional single-axle plus tailskid arrangement, Originally to be powered by the 60 h.p. ABC Gadfly, it was fitted with a 45 h.p. Viale powerplant.

  • As the Type 30 Babe Mk.I but fitted with a 40 h.p. Siddeley Ounce powerplant.
  • Type 46A Babe Mk.III
  • As the Type 30 Babe Mk.I but fitted with a 60 h.p. Le Rhône powerplant.

  • Low wing a thick-section cantilever monoplane wing conversion of the Mk.III.
