- Large passenger transatlantic airliner to Specification 2/44 to meet the requirements of O.R.171. Designed for luxury travel, with a flight crew of seven plus eight stewards, it could carry up to 100 passengers in multiple compartments; a forward area with six compartments, each for six passengers and a seventh for just three; a midsection with 38 seats arranged around tables in groups of four with a pantry and galley; and a rear area with 23 seats in an aft-facing cinema with a cocktail bar and lounge. The cantilever monoplane tailplane and fin were two-spar structures, with rudder and elevators featuring tubular metal leading edges, light alloy ribs and rivetted skins. The retractable tricycle undercarriage featured twin mainwheels per side and a twin-wheel, steerable nose undercarrige. Eight 2,650 h.p. Bristol Centaurus 20 powerplants driving paired three bladed Rotol propellers.
