Type Description
- Type 12 F.2A
- Two seat reconnaissance biplane with two bay equal span wings. The fuselage was suspended mid-way between the wings in a similar manner to the earlier Gordon England biplanes. Construction was all-wooden, the fuselage frame being rectangular in cross-section with wire bracing, clad in aluminium up to the cockpit, then with fabric The top of the fuselage cambered to a horizontal knife-edge stern, thus reducing the observer's blind area. The pilot was located immediately behind the centre section trailing edge, with the observer/gunner behind him. The rear cockpit arrangement was such that the observer's tip-up seat was mounted to slide fore-and-aft so that he could sit facing either way. This gave him a better look-out while using his wireless and placed him within arm's reach of the pilot to give him instant warning of attack. The two-spar wings were of the same span and chord, slightly staggered, rectangular in shape with rounded, slightly raked, tips and dihedral of 3-1/2°. Spars and ribs were made of spruce, the whole covered with fabric. Ailerons were fitted on both wings. The lower centre section was completely uncovered and simply comprised of the spar carry through structure, supported on struts below the fuselage. The interplane struts were made of steel tubes, profiled with aluminum sheet. The tail unit was also of fabric covered wooden construction, and featured unbalanced rudder and elevators. The incidence of the horizontal stabilizer could be adjusted on the ground. Armament comprised one .303 in forward-firing Vickers machine gun, mounted centrally in the upper fuselage, plus one .303 in Lewis Guns in the observer's cockpit, mounted on a Scarff ring. One 150 h.p. Hispano-Suiza powerplant.
- Type 14 F.2B Mk.I
- Improved version of the F.2A; the main structural difference was that the forward upper longerons, horizontal on the F.2A, now sloped downward from a point just behind the pilots cockpit rto meet the main engine bearing frame. The fuselage sides and upper body above the sloping longeron were now metal clad, with the upper line of the fuselage forward of the cockpit sloped down slightly to improve the pilot's view. The gap in the lower wing was filled by a lower centre section. One 275 h.p. Rolls-Royce Falcon III powerplant except the first 200 aircraft as indicated.

Army observation aircraft derivative of the F.2B, redesigned by the Plane Design Section of the Airplane Engineering Dept., U.S.A.A.S., McCook Field, Dayton, Ohio, and manufactured by the Curtiss Aeroplane Co, to take the 400 h.p. Liberty 12 (originally the lighter Liberty L-8 was intended for use, but this was cancelled). Initially fitted with side mounted radiators, this was replaced by one on the upper wing centre section from the third aircraft. Two fixed forward firing Marlin machine guns, plus two moveable Lewis machine guns in the rear cockpit. Responsiblity for design control was eventually transferred to Curtiss, but escalating weight saw the contract cancelled.

Type 14 fitted in the United States with a 300 h.p Wright Hispano powerplant. To reduce weight, it was only fitted with one fixed forward firing Marlin machine guns, plus one moveable Lewis machine guns on a Scarff ring in the rear cockpit. Intended initially as a trainer, it became an Army observation aircraft upon the cancellation of the USAO-1.

As USB-1 fitted with a 270 h.p. Liberty L-8 powerplant. Due to cancellation of the Liberty L-8, only a test example was available.
XB-1A
USB-1 redesigned as a two seat night observation aircraft (originally designated USXB-1) with a semi-monocoque plywoodfuselage and 300 h.p Wright Hispano powerplant.

Notes
- Type numbers for Bristol aircraft were not introduced until 1923-4, when Capt. Barnwell allotted numbers retrospectively to all designs from the Bristol Scout onwards. These Type numbers are used here for convenience. Contemporary media used the engine type as a means of definition. Type 96, dating from 1925, was used from the start.
- Delivered with a mix of Arab and Falcon powerplants, disposition unknown.
- Norwegian aircraft were identified by Löpenummer 104-108, probably a sort of book keeping number. The aircraft carried numbers 251, 253, 255, 257 and 259.
- Via [25], initial deliveries to Belgium, serials L1 - L17 (originally B1 - B17), comprised:
One Type 14 demonstrated by ADC at Haren-Evère (Brussels) 14 May 1920; returned to UK for modifications and returned to Evère 23 July 1920 and presented to King Albert I. Carried the letter 'A' for King Albert and handed over to 6Sq/IIIGroup based at Haren-Evère, given serial B-1 (later L-1). This aircraft was possibly ex A7256, but A7256 is noted as being rebuilt as H7171 8 October 1918.
One Type 14 presented to Queen Elisabeth of Belgium and delivered in January 1922. It carried the letter 'E' for Queen Elisabeth and used by 7Sq/IIIGroup based at Haren-Evère, where it was given serial B-2 (later L-2). Photographs of this aircraft appear to show it as a DC.

The Type 17A was also known as the 'Bristol 300' in the Aéronautique Militaire Belge, following the horsepower of its Hispano Suiza powerplant. - FMA had a licence agreement to build the F.2B. No new aircraft were built, but 10 airframes were rebuilt in 1930-31, these receiving serials 29 through 38.
- Originally ordered as 1000 aircraft under Order No. 20203 on 3 November 1917, replaced by Order No. 20285 for the same amount on 26 November. Cancelled and replaced by Oder No. 20387 on 10 January 1918 for 2000 aircraft to contract 2483. Cancelled on 20 July 1918 after 26 aircraft had been produced. Four Curtiss CB aircraft were later introduced into this serial batch, serials 34632 - 34635, only one of which, 32632, was actually built. This explains the frequently recorded figure of 27 USAO-1 aircraft being built.
- Barnes [1] lists Bristol sequence numbers 6162-6221 as 60 aircraft for A.M. (Air Ministry?), but this author can find nothing further on them.
- Run by the Cunard Steamship Co.
- Possible origin of these two aircraft: C949 was supplied to American Government as repayment and C4729 supplied to British Aviation Mission to Washington. Also possibly one of the Curtiss built USAO-1s.
- Distribution of aircraft in D2126 - D2625 from Sturtivant et al. [21]. Bruce [2] gives D2126 - D2251 built.
- Distribution of aircraft in D2626 - D2775 from Sturtivant et al. [21], but with many serials in the D2626 - D2758 range having no information. Bruce [2] gives known production as 133.
- Distribution of aircraft in E2651 - E2900 from Sturtivant et al. [21], but with many serials in the E2651 - E2800 range having no information. Bruce [2] gives known production as 126.
- Registration G-ACAA re-issued to a rebuild of an F.2B airframe, but with no connection to the original aircraft. To The Vintage Aviator Limited, Masterton, New Zealand as ZK-BRI(2) in January 2007.
- H1282 was converted on the production line to a three-seater before delivery to the RAF.
H1460 was modified to a Type 27 on the production line.
H1568, H1652 built as DC. H1463, H1652 converted to DC, presumably before delivery.
At least one (H1248) fitted with Hispano-Suiza powerplant.
H1687 - H1689 delivered in July 1919 as unarmed dual control two seat communications aircraft with additional tankage to give an endurance of five hours.
