History
Gottfried Baumann was born about 1873 in Niederlenz, Aargau, Switzerland, the son of Johannes Baumann and Marianne Baumann (née Dobeli). By 1901 he was living in South Manchester, and working as a pattern maker. In 1909, while living in Heaton Mersey, Manchester and working for chain maker Hans Reynolds Ltd, he patented an ornithopter with parachute (Patent No. GB190923713A). The machine was for sale in 1910.
Gottfried Baumann died on 31 July 1953 in Halifax, Yorkshire.
