Type Description and Production Data

Type 519 Type 519A Type 522 Type 528 Silver King
Production Summary
Type 519
Single seat biplane bomber, based on the Type 510 and unbuilt Type 515, for the RNAS. A conventional two-bay biplane of large, but greatly unequal span, it featured folding wings, ailerons on the upper wings only, an unbalanced rudder and large triangular fixed fin. The pilots cockpit was positioned well behind the wing trailing edge and featured a streamlined headrest. The undercarriage was a scaled up version of the early Type 504, with a central ash skid and an axle in conjunction with two main undercarriage legs having built-in rubber shock absorbers in streamlined cases. The first machine was fitted with a 150 h.p. Sunbeam with side mounted radiators, the second with a 225 h.p. Sunbeam powerplant and a large radiator mounted above and behind the engine.
Type 519A
Two seat biplane bomber variant of the Type 519 for the RFC. Similar to the second Type 519, with a second cockpit located under the wing centre section trailing edge, and featuring a simplified V undercarriage with no skid. One 225 h.p. Sunbeam powerplant and a large radiator mounted above and behind the engine. (See Note 1)
