History

Henry (b. 16 May 1886 in Edinburgh - d. - ?) and Alfred Hope Alexander (b. 28 February 1891 in Edinburgh - d. 21 February 1891 in Edinburgh) were Joint Managing Directors of Alexanders of Edinburgh, Ltd., an offshoot of a cycle and motor cycle business started by J. R. Alexander Snr., along with his sons James, Henry and Alfred, and claimed to be the oldest Ford Main dealers in Britain. Henry was educated at George Watson's College, Edinburgh, and studied engineering as apprentice to Argyll Motors, Alexandria and Arrol Johnston's, Paisley, while his younger brother Alfred was apprenticed in 1906 into Motor Engineering.

The brothers exhibited a monoplane at the 1910 Scottish Motor Show.

Production Details and Type Description

Monoplane
Demoiselle type monoplane, with a fuselage made of steel tubing. The wings, constructed of wooden spars and ribs and braced to the fuselage with steel tubes, were double surfaced and featured warping for lateral control. The tail unit was hinged on a universal joint. One 20-h.p. Alexander four cylinder powerplant.
